Some (Better) Bird Photographs

by admin

I do try to get a decent picture of any birds I see, as it hopefully makes later identification of the bird that much easier (although what they look like in the book and what they look life in real life is not necessarily comparable).

To assist, my Nikon has a ‘birdwatching’ setting, which takes seven images over a 1 second period. I guess the hope is that there is maybe one photo in the batch that is okay. But quite often the camera focussing gets confused or the bird moves during this time, so it usually doesn’t work out.

So, most of my bird pictures look like this…

Or this…

Which is disheartening, to say the least. But just occasionally, all the effort pays off and you get a decent image. Not all the photos are worth sharing, but here are a couple of my better results that I have not shared previously:

Brolgas dancing near Birdsville
Red-capped Robin
Brown Goshawk
White-breasted Woodswallow
Well named Rainbow Bee-eaters live in open timbered country
The Grey Strike-thrush may be dull to look at, but makes up for it with an amazing ringing call
This odd looking fellow is a Crested Bellbird
Singing Honeyeater with lunch
Pacific Gull, also with lunch
Male Satin Bowerbird…
… with his mate
