Heading out of Broome, I noticed a bit of smoke in the distance. Not knowing the direction the road took, I didn’t really give it much thought – there are quite a few bushfires burning in the dry north at the moment.
Very quickly, that little puff of smoke became a thick black and grey turmoil, filling a large portion of the sky.
The fire built rapidly in the dry undergrowth. I realised that the fire was actually burning right up to the roadside and the safest passage was to keep driving.
As I passed, I could feel the massive radiant heat from the flames inside the car, even with the air conditioning blasting cold air!
So, a bit of excitement for the day. Actually most of my days are much more normal than this, which is not a bad thing, really…
