I do try to get a decent picture of any birds I see, as it hopefully makes later identification of the bird that much easier (although what they look like in the book and what they look life in real life is not necessarily comparable).
To assist, my Nikon has a ‘birdwatching’ setting, which takes seven images over a 1 second period. I guess the hope is that there is maybe one photo in the batch that is okay. But quite often the camera focussing gets confused or the bird moves during this time, so it usually doesn’t work out.

Which is disheartening, to say the least. But just occasionally, all the effort pays off and you get a decent image. Not all the photos are worth sharing, but here are a couple of my better results that I have not shared previously:
